Patronage
As a non-profit business, Guthrie County REC has margins instead of profits
(revenue less expenses = margins). These margins become patronage dividends
and are allocated to all members who received electric service during the year
in proportion to the amount of revenue provided.
Patronage dividends are paid back as the financial condition of the cooperative
permits. Until that time, these funds are used by the cooperative to reduce
indebtedness, finance plant improvements, and maintain reserves for other contingencies
such as major storm damage.
